Value Based Education
Sexuality and power are at the root of most sexual and reproductive health problems. To manage sexual and reproductive lives, people must be able to decide consciously whether, when, and with whom to become sexually active; to avoid nonconsensual sex, sexual violence, and abuse; to plan pregnancies and have access to safe abortion; to avoid acquiring or transmitting sexually transmitted infections and HIV. Towards this direction, CANA introduced “Value Based Education” – curriculum for Class 7, 8, 9 & 11. We have piloted this program in some schools in Manipur and Nagaland which proved to be quite successful. Our main purpose is not to popularize CANA curriculum but to impact the correct knowledge to prevent the spread of HIV & AIDS through value based action in life and behavioral change.Schools that have implemented the curriculum formed a club for their students called “Value Net” and work together in various ways: organize activities like inter-school competitions, build good relationship, work for social cause like HIV/AIDS, organize World AIDS day; organize exposure visit for students to care homes in town.
CANA has like minded members from people/NGO to share and work together.
